Details for this painting come from my 1982 sketchbook shown below. During the painting of Penallta colliery I visited a former miner
who helped confirm doubt I had with some areas.
As much as I can remember the colliery features changed every 10 years or so and my painting captures it in 1982.
Had I been years ealier I might have cought the two wooden water coolers and the coal buckets which travelled up to the coal tip seen.
