Ystrad Mynach Landscape-from the early sixties

Ystrad Mynach Landscape-from the early sixties

This oil painting captures the view down the valley from the fields alongside Pengam Road, Ystrad Mynach - a view from the early sixties.
On the left see's the Newport to Brecon Steam train passing through Cwmdu Farm while on the right is visible the Cardiff bound steam train having just left Ystrad Mynach station plus, a coal train maybe on its way to Penallta Colliery.
Just visible is the A472 Road (Ystrad to Maesycwmmer) and shows the flooded fields where the Rhymney River has overflowed after heavy rain. I was around twelve then and remember seeing the flooded fields from the Glam-Mon Garage. I have attempted to capture the passing storm with a break in the clouds and some rain fall on the right, just alongside the Llanbradach coal tip which is still there in 2022.
