Painting of Class 37 locomotive
passing through Hengoed railway station
(2019/12)
Had to take this opportunity to capture the Class 37 locomotive - 37418 - passing through Hengoed low level station. Not a regular visitor along this line and it seems refurbishment of the existing diesel trains and the need for extra capacity has warrented the
use of this old loco'. I was lucky here because as the Cardiff bound train left the station along came the Class 37 so there was no thinking about the painting - this is a record of that moment, around 5.30pm, Sept' 2019.
The footbridge seen here replaces the former stone bridge used for Hengoed High level station which closed in 1964. The station was to the left and the remains of both platforms are still there.
Hengoed/Maesycwmmer Viaduct is also to the left and is used along with the footbridge as
part of the national cycle network.
