Hengoed high level railway station

Originally known as the Hengoed and Maesycwmmer station this view from 1964 shows the arrival of the Mountain Ash bound steam train crossing over Hengoed viaduct to Hengoed High Level station. The station closed in 1964 and left derelect for a number of years. The station and viaduct now forms part of the national cycle track. As a family we used the low level station quite a lot but I never ventured up to the high level station so it is pleasing for me to have done this. If you have any history on this station and would like to share it please let me know and I will add it to this page.My thanks to Mr D O Packer of Ystrad Mynach for digging out and lending me details of the station/trains. These details are not readily available so without his help this painting may not have been done.
