People often ask questions whenever I am displaying at a fete or out sketching. Some are shown below.
U draw and paint really hard pictures. How do you manage it? A question from Seal in Cardiff.
How many days/weeks does a painting take to complete.
Who owns the copyright to the painting.
How many paintings have I done.
If you have a question you think could be added to this list then why not e-mail me and I will add the question and my reply to this list.

A good question Seal. My paintings may look hard but what makes them easier is thats they are all local scenes. Some of the views have now gone but most of them are still there for all to see. Probably the hardest part ( if it is hard ) is the preparation for each painting. I'll do my best to go out and sketch the scene and this has to be done on the weekends and in the evenings, it can all take a lot of time but in the end the finished painting makes it worthwhile.
Practice is what it's all about.

I see nothing wrong with using photographs though I generally use a sketch book. It is something to look back on and more importantly the sketches form the origin of my paintings.

Pencil with watercolour for sketching and oil paints for the finished work - the sketches are often bought as well.

Canvas, though on the odd occasion I will use canvas board. Canvas will be used for commissions.

The theme for my website is paintings of the Rhymney Valley and all the commissions I have completed are for local people asking for their favourite view or place.
If you live in the area and would like to commission a painting simply send an e-mail
robarts@landscape-paintings.freeserve.co.uk
or telephone : 01443 862923
On the other hand, if you are not local and would still like an original oil painting or sketch of your favourite landscape why not get in touch or send me some photographs and we'll see what we can sort out.

A painting 20" x 30" will usually take about 10 weeks, this includes site visits for sketching.

A commissioned painting is varnished some 6 months after delivery.
If someone in your household smokes then I would advise that the painting is mounted behind glass. An original oil painting will 'yellow' very fast if left unprotected, believe me I've seen them.

I am not employed to produce work therefore as a FREELANCE ARTIST I own the Copyright to all the paintings and work shown on this site. The copyright remains with me even when I am commissioned to produce a piece of work, I always make this clear before undertaking any work - a price for buying the Copyright can be agreed with me. Until such time that all parties have expressed in writing and signed by all parties then the copyright remains with me.

I'm not a prolific painter, when you consider the sketching time and then the painting itself. My style doesn't lend itself to painting great quantities and after all the large paintings take some time.
A point worth mentioning is that I register the name and address of the buyer, also each painting or sketch I sell is given a number. This has been a great help especially since most of the paintings shown in these Galleries were borrowed from the owners and digitally photographed for this web site.
